Birth: July 17, 1952.

Early Years: Oldest of three sons of Mr. Richard E. and Martha J. Dennis, brothers David and Tom.

High School: Michigan: Alpena High School, Bentley High School and Flushing High School.

College: BS in Physics at the University of Michigan and his PhD in Nuclear Physics at the University of Virginia.

Professional Jobs: Previously, he was Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Office for Distributed and Distance Learning (ODDL) at FSU. He has been a faculty member in the FSU Physics Department has taught physics at FSU since 1980. In addition he has served as acting director of the Florida State University Supercomputer Computations Research Institute.

Marriage: Elaine M. Dennis, 1975.

Graduate Study: University of Virginia, 1974-1979.

Special Contributions: Dean Dennis has won a University Teaching Award and two State of Florida Teaching Incentive Program Awards. In his role as Director of ODDL, he has gained extensive experience developing online degree programs and applying technology to instruction. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern University Research Association and is a member of the EDUCAUSE Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning.
