Professional Certificates

The School of Library and Information Studies offers graduate-level certificate programs to allow students to master technical aspects in specialized areas of study.  Certificates are open to degree- and non-degree seeking students who:

  • Provide proof of Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • Have a minimum earned grade point average of 3.0 or higher on all upper-division undergraduate course work toward a bachelor’s degree, or a minimum 3.0 GPA on an earned master’s degree
    or
    Are currently enrolled as a graduate student in good standing at The Florida State University.

Admission and completion of a graduate-level certificate program does not guarantee admission to a master’s or specialist degree program.  Students may, however, apply up to 12 semester hours of credit earned toward the master’s or specialist degree with approval.

Fall: July 1
Spring: November 1
Summer: March 1

Application Requirements

Applying to a Certificate Program can be as easy as 1-2-3.

Degree-Seeking Applicants currently enrolled at FSU:

If you are a currently enrolled graduate student in good standing at FSU, complete the Current Student Application for Certificate Programs.

Non-Degree Seeking Applicants:

Students applying as non-degree seeking must apply to the School, apply to the University and submit official transcripts.

Step 1 – Apply to The School of Library and Information Studies

Submit the online SLIS Supplemental Application.

Step 2 – Apply to The Florida State University

Non-Degree Seeking Applicants not currently accepted to FSU must submit the online University Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Student Application.  Students will be required to apply to the University and pay an application fee (online).

Step 3 – Submit Official Transcripts

An official transcript from each college or university attended must be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions.  If you previously attended FSU, you will not need to submit an official FSU transcript.  All transcripts must be sent to:
