The Florida State University (FSU) College of Communication & Information (CCI) will initially provide courses from the School of Library & Information Studies (SLIS) starting 2011. These courses are a first step in creating a research center in South Florida, where the entire College - including Schools of Communication and Communication Disorders - plan to expand our local educational offerings, as well as our collaborative programs between our Research Centers - such as the Information Use Management & Policy Institute and the Partnerships Advancing Library Media (PALM) Center - and various South Florida organizations.
A Center in South Florida
The South Florida metropolitan area typifies a modern regional setting with strong international influences. The political, cultural, and educational activities in the region combine to offer a multitude of opportunities for advanced research and education in the practice of communication and information innovation and leadership.
What the South Florida Research Center will bring:
- Research Collaboration. The Center will provide synergy for a range of collaborative research projects with other educational institutions, government agencies, private companies and not-for-profit organizations in the South Florida area. The Center will promote "hands-on" research and learning, relying on a clinical model of in-the-field research and educational strategies. The following CCI research centers plan to participate:
-
- The Information Use Management and Policy Institute
- Partnerships for Advancing Library Media (PALM)
- The Center for Information Management and Scientific Communication
- The Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication
- Educational Environment. Building upon a robust educational environment serving diverse populations and professions, this initiative will provide a focal point for FSU graduate education - related to Communications, Communication Disorders, and Library and Information Studies - within the South Florida region.
