Alumni Giving
Private support though alumni giving has been essential to the success of our students and to all of our academic programs. Private gifts enable our best students to present their work at conferences and participate in internship and research programs, provide faculty with the competitive edge they need to attract sufficient external funding to support both faculty and student research and assist FSU in attracting and retaining outstanding faculty. Whether a gift is outright or deferred, cash or a gift-in-kind, a contribution made through the FSU Foundation to the School of Library & Information Studies provides a margin of excellence that allows the School to continue producing outstanding graduates and attracting outstanding faculty.
The School has identified a number of areas where your continued support can make a tremendous difference. They include
Scholarships – the School's academic programs have grown faster than our scholarship opportunities. Named scholarships can provide select students with over $1,000 per year to help defray their educational expenses
- Undergraduate Scholarships: the School currently has 400 undergraduate majors and only one undergraduate scholarship
- Masters Scholarships or Fellowships: the School currently has over 700 students enrolled in its Library and Information Studies and School Media programs.
- Doctoral Fellowships: the School currently has approximately 50 doctoral students who need funds to help support their dissertation research activities.
Named Professorships – named professorships are used to help retain outstanding faculty by enabling FSU to offer competitive salaries and providing outstanding faculty with funds to attend conferences, support students or support their research.
Internship Supervision Support – endowed program to support our internship development efforts at the graduate and undergraduate level. These programs provide students with mentored, real-world work experiences (either through endowed program funds or the Annual Fund to help cover the ongoing expenses of promoting this program to employers)
PALM Center and Information Institute support opportunities include Graduate Research Fellowships an Endowed Chair for the Center Director and center naming opportunity
Annual Fund – Contributions to the Annual Fund are used at the Dean's discretion to provide scholarships, student travel funds and support for new academic initiatives.
