Welcome to the FSU School of Library & Information Studies web site

The FSU School of Library & Information Studies has a long history of outstanding faculty, academic programs and research. FSU has become one of the international leaders in the i-school movement by examining the critical relationships between people, information and technology. In keeping with the i-school philosophy our Library and Information Studies, School Media and Information Technology programs emphasize professions and activities which help others use and manage information in an age when information is a vital part of everyone's lives. Our education, research and service efforts described on this web site combine the people focused, service-oriented traditions of these professions with modern information and communication technologies.

I hope that this web site demonstrates the strong sense of community and commitment to support each other in the pursuit of excellence that help make the FSU School of Library & Information Studies a great place to work and study. Evidence of this community can be seen in the activities of the local chapter of Association for Information Technology Professionals, the American Library Association Student Chapter, our School Leadership Board and our many student and faculty service activities. Our commitment to excellence is found in our efforts in the classroom (both online and on-campus) and to provide our students and faculty with online access to and support for state-of-the-art information technologies via iSpace, the Internet Public Library and Second Life, in research and in the outstanding efforts of our graduates.

FSU educates and develops leaders with the composure, compassion, creativity, connections and commitment to positively impact their communities, the State and the world. It is our goal to educate and support the total person, to build, instill and demonstrate the personal and collective strength, skill and character that helps make our world a better place.
